Age checks are now law. Here's what we won, and what comes next

For years we made the case that children should not be one click away from the most extreme material the internet has ever produced. As of this year, age verification is mandatory.

The response from parts of the industry was telling. Rather than verify the age of their users, one of the largest platforms in the world chose to block UK users entirely.

Why this matters

If a business would rather lose an entire national market than confirm its users are adults, that is not a business built around consent and safety. It's a business built around access at any cost.

This is a real win. But it's a floor, not a ceiling. The next fight is implementation of the full set of recommendations on the table, and that starts with your MP.
